Choose the airport for the whole journey
Shannon Airport is the most direct major gateway for the host county. Dublin may provide more nonstop routes, especially for long-haul travellers, but requires a substantially longer onward journey. Cork and Kerry are useful alternatives for visitors combining the event with the south-west.
Compare the complete journey rather than the airfare alone: arrival time, baggage collection, transfer availability, overnight accommodation and the location of your first confirmed stay all matter.
Separate arrival transport from event transport
A private transfer or hire car can simplify arrival, especially with golf equipment or several travellers. Event-day access is different: temporary traffic management, official shuttles and park-and-ride arrangements may replace an ordinary drive to the venue.
Do not assume that a hire car provides access to Adare Manor. Recheck the official spectator guidance when detailed transport plans are released.
Build a resilient departure plan
Allow generous time after the final session and avoid a tightly timed flight that depends on normal traffic. An extra night in Limerick, Shannon or another suitable base can make the departure more realistic.
For a wider road trip, collect the car when touring begins rather than paying for it while using organised event transport. Review driver-age rules, deposits, fuel policy and cross-border conditions before booking.
